THE first trucker through the Port Tunnel said last night he couldn’t believe how it slashed his journey time around the city.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He predicted that truck drivers would use the tunnel from now on.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

John McGann from Ardrahan, Co Galway, a driver with Langan Couriers, Oranmore said it took him just 17 minutes to drive from the start of the tunnel to the West Link toll bridge on the M50.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

This journey normally takes Mr Gann 55 minutes or more. From the toll plaza it took him only 22 minutes to drive to the Red Cow Roundabout.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“The tunnel is absolutely brilliant. I didn’t think it would be as fast as it was,” he said. “Truck drivers will be using it in droves. There is going to be time savings for drivers and their companies,” said Mr McGann
